Finding The Time

When was the last time you were bored? The last time you had a handful of precious, unaccounted for moments with which you had absolutely nothing planned to do? A gap of time when all of your tasks and chores and obligations were, miraculously, completed, finito, no longer looming over your head like your father at your bedroom door giving you the stink eye on a Saturday morning while the front lawn beckons to be mowed.

Me? I consider myself very lucky to never seem to have a dull day, strewn with large chunks of nothing-to-do time, peppered with bouts of ennui and salted with hours of endless emptiness. On the other hand, I sometimes find myself craving the simpler things in life, like lounging with a cold beverage by the ocean with no decision more pressing than where, oh, where will we dine tonight? Or holed up in a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere with a hundred books I’ve been putting off and dying to read. But, alas, those scenarios only exist in my fantasy dreams and a few weeks a year during my much needed and very much appreciated vacation time.

Back to reality. I like to keep busy, enjoy it, actually. But it goes beyond that. You could say that I am driven to succeed, to accomplish as much as I can in the short amount of time we have on this earth. And while that's a good thing, it can present challenges. Of course, keeping ones balance amidst all the madness is a must, but finding the time to do all that needs to be done is equally, if not more, important.

“It is a vital necessity to do all the things that you have to do to be able to do all the things that you need to do.”

Walking and Talking with Mike: Finding The Time

I love a life filled with activity, of as many positive endeavors you can shake a stick at, especially those that enhance, improve, grow, shape, and drive you as a person. The key is finding the time to do as much of all this good stuff as humanly possible. Here are some tips:

* prioritize…then prioritize again
* multitask
* eliminate “empty” activities
* turn that boob tube off!
* learn to juggle
* don’t bite off more than you can chew
* practice patience
* at the end of the day, pat yourself on the back and…
*…write a new to-do list
* do it all over again

Remember, it’s good to be busy, but also just as important to find the balance to do other things unrelated to deadlines and pressures, tasks and chores, goals and obligations. I understand the importance of living a balanced life, but also the necessity of living a fulfilled one. The key is:

FINDING THE TIME

Until next time…

peace,

Mike

i don't believe i get bored and i don't understand adults who said they are bored. i have too many hobbies and interests that can keep me occupied. i will need to live forever just to learn and do everything i want to. if anything i need more time in a day. it's more than finding the time, but making the time. you will never find time - have to create it.

Time is that most valuable of commodities. There never seems to enough to accomplish everything I have to do, let alone what I want to do.

Like you, I try to keep busy,and stay pretty active. I seldom watch television, except for about three shows a week. I read more than anything, but the chores must be done also.

Now with the blogging world, and my being able to get back into it. There is even less time. So it seems to be a mater of scheduling for me, more than anything else.

Sorry I've been absent for so long, computer compromises take their toll.

Great advice. I don't get bored- I usually have too many things on the go to be bored- but sometimes I get restless. Then I know I have to travel or exercise or write to quench the restlessness :)

i never get bored as my life is full with so many commitments with work, biz and love. but sometimes you just need your own time to do what you like to do instead of do what you need or must do :)

I dunno, think it's good to have something to focus on.

natural: i like what you said--making the time rather than just finding it...hmmm, maybe i should change the title to this post?

eric: hey, long time no see. hope all is well, thanks for stopping by. totally understand the challenge of juggling so many things...

sagan: i get restless too and need a change of scenery every now and then...maui, anyone?

faisal: well put, doing what you like is important...sometimes i'm too driven and need to force myself to take a chill pill...

Your right once in awhile with my busy schedule I do feel stressed however it passes once I get outside and have my walk where I discuss with me alone who I a and what I'm missing and really it's not much. Of course I'd love not to have to work any more although I'm blessed with a job I like therefore it's not so bad and I now can see the light at the end of the tunnel..that is the good light where I'll have more time..to just be lazy.

Great post and great video..

Blessings..

I never get bored and I just LOVE this video as my life is as packed and fast paced as yours. I have so many dreams that I'm bringing into fruition. Even if I didn't I only have so much time on the amazing planet and I want to REALLY live it fully.

I was just hiking the other day and thinking how I also am going to have to do videos while walking or they just won't get done. I don't watch TV either. And multi-task every day.

It was sooo good to see someone else going through what I am going through. :) Again, I love this video because it is REAL, more so with all the huffing. I can't walk and film without huffing and puffing. The mic picks it all up no matter how fit I am. Also, that IS a steep hill. If you hike that everyday you'll be ready for the Olympics!! LOLOL!!

Wonderful vibrant and real post mike. Hope you and your wife are enjoying the new place.

Peace to you mike,
Robin

hey robin! thanks for the wonerful comment. i am so happy that you can tell that that hill is steep, so many others have said it doens't look that difficult, but it really is. and walking while video taping is not only excellent time management, but gives the video a differet perspective that, some say, is better than the ones i shoot while just sitting and not moving. and my wife and i are very happy at the new house, thanks...

I am definitely a person who needs to find the time! I seem to feel constantly stressed at all that needs to be done and it's very overwhelming at times. I appreciate the fact that I never seem to be bored (who has the time? :P) but yes, it would be nice to slow down once in a while and not be eyeing off all that still needs to be done while trying to find time for myself.

I can't remember when I was ever bored. Since I was a tiny tot and even now I am retired with all those extra hours, the days just fly past as I have just so much I want to do.

I've never been bored - ever - but I probably look at those quiet "empty, unproductive" moments as a blessing or planned actually so I can just BE. Boy the older I get, the more I actually schedule what I call "down time" - not that I'm DOWN, just quiet - and if a nap happens, well then, ok!

vegetation: what i do when i feel overwhelmed or stress is step away, take some downtime, which reinvigorates my mind, body, and soul, so i come back to my tasks fresh and ready to resume...

jackie: you have a fulfilled and purposeful life, congrats...

suzen: a nap sounds good right about now...zzzzzz....
