You Gotta Want It

What do the world’s most famous athletes, successful businessmen, high-powered politicians, space-traveling astronauts, working actors, creative artists, respected school teachers, and hard-working plumbers all have in common? They all desire to succeed more than they can bear to fail. To put it another way, they refuse to allow anything or anyone to stand in the way of achieving what they feel is their destiny.

What does this have to do with you? Why, everything, of course. Everything, that is, if you desire to change something about yourself, or have the urge to be something that you currently are not. No matter what your dreams or goals may be—to play left field for the Boston Red Sox or teach high school English—one commonality you must share with anyone who has ever achieved anything worthwhile in this life is the thirst to succeed. The need to overcome any obstacle in your way. But most of all:

YOU STILL GOTTA WANT IT

Just wanting something doesn’t mean your work is done, but it does mean that you have taken a giant step toward achieving your goal. This applies to anything you want, from needing the motivation to lose that extra weight you’ve been trying to lose for years, to finally getting around to figuring out why you detest your job, or your relationships, or your life. Not matter what it is you want to change about yourself or what mountain of opportunity you quest after, you have to want to do it significantly more than not wanting to do it.

I often ask myself what I can do better to help people attain their life goals. I have produced over 350 self-help videos at my website, livelife365.com, and while I have received thousands of encouraging comments and inspirational feedback from successful visitors sharing with me how my websites have helped change their lives for the better, I still want to help thousands (dare I say, millions?) more. One of the biggest roadblocks most people face along the path to success in any worthwhile endeavor is not how to start, but WANTING to start.

Most people know they have flaws, weaknesses, areas of concern that need to be improved. Though there seems to be an endless supply of informative venues to help most of us—from websites, books, videos, and television shows—none of them will ever work unless someone is ready to change.

I began livelife365.com with one goal in mind: To help as many people as I possibly could change their lives for the better. One of the first videos I produced was one of me sitting in my office, surrounded by books, talking about the significance of not only recognizing the need to change, but the vital importance of WANTING to change. I recently received a nice comment on that video, prompting me to watch it again, and, guess what? While a little longer than I would like it to be, the message was still strong…and important. So much so I was motivated to write this post and share that video with you in the hopes that it may be that one little push to give you the direction or desire you have been missing and looking for:

YOU GOTTA WANT IT

Personal development, self growth, achieving goals, pursuing your dreams, and changing your life for the better are never easy. It takes hard work, direction, patience, but most of all it takes desire and determination so strong that you refuse to allow anything or anyone to stand in the way of what it is you want to do.

YOU GOTTA WANT IT!

May you achieve all that you desire and deserve.

Until next time…

peace,

Mike

This is great information Mike. I would add one thing to your thoughts on wanting something badly in order to achieve it. I believe that we also need to want it for ourselves.

People will often point out our short comings and things that we need to change "for our own good" but even if we do take their advice most likely we will not succeed because we did not do it for ourselves.

For many years my mother wanted me to loose weight and she tried every trick in the book to get me to do so. Last year I decided to change my eating habits and I am now loosing weight quickly because it was my choice, I made up my mind that I wanted to do something healthy for myself.

Classic livelife365 video! "Wanting it" requires desire, and desire is a hard commodity to come by, but I believe its in all of us, we just need to dig deep and find it.

Hi Mike!
Another dy-no-mite post! I think you have the gift to motivate a ROCK!

You know one thing you said at the beginning is something that makes me NUTS - people who say they don't have the time! I know so many folks ask me ALL the time, "How do you find the time to do so much?" It's not TIME that is lost here. It's that lack of wanting to do things you so eloquently spoke of - time is here and now, not lost. It's the people's lack of desire that is lost.

Thank you so so much for being such a bright beacon of light! Every visit here is a delight!
Hugs

rod: well said, rod, desire is inside most of us, but daring to tap into that desire is not as easily done as said

suzen: you are the delight for your amazing insight and incredible comments...and for always being right there with my messages...as if you wrote them yourself...thanks...

dori: raising the hairs on the back of your neck raised the hairs on the back of my neck...cool...

kriz: right back at ya...i am the year of the monkey, but tiger will suffice for now...

agree with you mike. i always want to quit my job and start my own business but i don't have the courage to do so. i'm attached to security. i mean, if i quit, what happen if my business not going well? how am i going to pay my house and car?

but, all my friends who involve into business tell me, if i feel comfortable in my own box and have no gut to do beyond what i can, then i have to stick to this job forever.

i always wanted to be rich or at least above average. now, what i need is the gut to be better.

do pray for me mike...

Mike, I couldn't have said it better than you. Simple and yet challenging truth. We Gotta Want it! That is a major step to changing anything we want to change; the burning desire to change.

heidi: you are too kind...i am just a firm believer that we can accomplish just about anything that we set our minds to...if only we want it bad enough...

faisal: it is a tough decision, to go it alone or stay with the safety net of our comfortable day jobs...i try to follow my bliss but not give up anything steady...a true life paradox...good luck

bk: wanting it is but the beginning of the long journey to self improvement, but it is a necessary first step...

Any time that I DON'T follow through with something, I know then that it's because I didn't want it enough. If I want something enough, I'll put in that real true solid effort to really GO for it! But I think we can learn a lot from the things that we do or don't get/do in life... it tells us whether or not we really wanted it.

This is a great post Mike. Natural desire is within each of us. Motivation to dig for that "desire" is a whole different ball game. It's not about time or even need in some cases.... Self improvement, success, whatever real desires we have can be attained... like you said, You gotta want it!

I have to say a huge THANKS Mike for this important reminder. The want and as Carol said, the want for ourselves and not for others is key in achieving success. Like SuZen I also get the "when do you find time to do...." whatever and my answer always seems to be "because I want...." this or that and because I make me #1 on my list of priorities. Helps keep a happy mommy, wife and therefore a happy home!!

You most definitely ROCK!!

Thanks.

Mike, your old video was so topical for me, I can't wait to finish this comment and stop procrastinating/being afraid to do what I actually want to do.

I'm looking for a job now. It's been so frustrating for so long that now I start realizing that I'm afraid to contact people just to be rejected again. I know though there are methods I haven't tried yet. I know I can do better. Your words were great, but the video just changed my entire mindset I have developed lately. You are right, not only you gotta want it, you gotta want it more than anything else that's standing in the way of your dreams.

Thank you again!!!
P.S. I also liked your response to Heidi here. True can-do attitude always wins.

sagan: totally agree...easier said than done, but agree nonetheless

redkathy: i feel most people understand the need to improve themselves, but lack the desire

terie: a wise man once said, "Happy wife, happy life." Goes for mommy's too...

katrine: rejection can be daunting, but remember: failing = feedback...you can only learn, get better, and improve from there...

peace,

mike

Mike,
This is an awesome message. Makes you want to take action, immediately. :) We have to want it.

I was having a hard time sticking to a high raw diet, but it wasn't until I made up my mind that I wanted to do it, seriously. This is my second week and I'm taking one day at a time. "You Gotta Want It."

When I was in high school, we use to cheer at the games, "You've got to want, it to win it, and we want it bad." How bad do you want it?

Powerful message!

P.S. I've awarded you the Beautiful Blogger Award. Keep inspiring us all to be the best we can be.

Warm Regards,
Evelyn
